Aspen
Project Information: The 15,000 SF main residence is built into the South Aspen hillside. It boasts exceptional views of Independence Pass and the backside of Aspen Mountain. The adjoining guest lot is parklike with meandering streams and trout-stocked ponds. This art deco-inspired modern retreat was designed by Charles Cunniffe of Aspen, CO. The exterior finishes include solid walnut windows and doors cladded in true bronze. The rainscreen consists of a composite material made from rice husks, and the stone veneer is dimensionally-cut Oklahoma brown fieldstone. The wood-like swirled sandstone that carefully dresses the expansive entry is cut from large boulders sourced out of the Ozark Mountains. The interior finishes include patinaed stainless steel accents throughout with wide plank wire-brushed and waxed oak flooring. There are 36 different wood species throughout including rare East Indian rosewood, cathedral-cut walnut, silver-dyed lacewood, ribbon sapele, palladium leaf, ebony, and even white walnut. The two custom stainless and curved glass elevators are the show pieces of the residence, each traveling a single floor via a stainless steel hydraulic piston that comes out of the ground. The fireplaces are 350,000 BTU custom stainless burners with traditional masonry flue assemblies. The landscape includes over an acre of fish-stocked ponds and meandering streams.
